A tulou is usually a large, enclosed and fortified earth building, rectangular or circular in configuration, with very thick load-bearing rammed earth walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 80 families. (from Wikipedia)
The Macau and 澳門 (macau)中文版 groups, as well as the Macau Place Page reveal this regions contrast between Chinese and Portuguese cultures, along side Las Vegas style casinos.
Woo! Pro members have options for watching their view counts and stats with three applications we’ve noticed in the App Garden.
flickrstats runs through the stats spreadsheet files that are on your stats pages and returns a nifty interactive graph and tantalizing pie charts on a web page that visually illustrates the activity on your photos.
F*Stats is a classic; it’s a desktop application that downloads your stats data so that you can store more than 28 days of data on your local computer.
Exif statistics gives you info on the aperture, the focal length or the ISO sensitivity you use the most! You can even filter your photos by the make of camera or your settings. It’s handy for learning what settings you use on your camera and learning the photographic results of those settings.
June 1st!
A reminder that historical stats data (your referrers back to the ‘beginning’) is only available until June 1st. After June 1st only the last 28 days of data will be available. Download those spreadsheets soon if you want that historical data! Some notes for developers on stats API resources are here.
Longing for a nice photography project to delve into this weekend? Search no more! Light Stencils are here to the rescue.
All you need is a sharp hobby knife, some cardboard, opaque cellophane and a little creativity. Once you’ve got everything, just go check out all the details in tdub303‘s awesome tutorial over at the Light Junkies group and let your imagination take over.
On May 18th 1980, Mt. St. Helens erupted sending ash 80,000 feet from the mountain within 15 minutes. The ash circled the earth in 15 days and released 24 megatons of energy. (from USGS) Above are a few photos from Flickr members who witnessed the eruption.
There were 57 casualties. Among them was local lodge owner Harry R Truman (shown here) who refused to leave his home despite the warning given by scientists that the mountain was going to erupt.
End of 2008, LOOLOO IMAGE spent some days in North Korea. She documented her experiences in her North Korea DPRK 북한 set. Even if many of her photos were deleted from her camera, she is able to provide an impressive look at the "economically speaking poor" but "spiritually speaking rich" country.
They’ve also got terrific collections of Human Ecology, chronicling life at Cornell through the years, some harrowing train wreck images and a broad international catalog of architectural photos. Congrats to Big Red on their entry into the Commons!
The Commons is the world’s digital photographic archives which you can annotate; add Cornell as a contact and pass some information along to them as a part of the historic record.
Your Mom, co-worker, BFF, and more can once again print your photos on Flickr. Even better, now that Snapfish is our printing partner, they can order prints of your smiling face from anywhere in the world. (This was previously available only to people in the U.S.)
You control who can print in Your Account. It’s set to “Only you” by default. We’ve saved your settings from before so if you’ve already told us to allow others to print, well–they still can. Just a reminder, you can allow any Flickr member, only contacts, or only people you’ve marked as Friends/Family to print.
If you’ve got feedback let us know over in the help forum.
