Hello Flickr friends, photographers, and collaborators far and wide! Concept Collaboration‘s community involvement and the images created from it continue to blow my mind, month after month.
Concept Collaboration challenges the photography industry-norm of unhealthy competition and dissociation, replacing it with community, collaboration, and the achievement of multiple common goals while joining with new friends far and wide. Supported by Flickr, we enable global artistic collaboration for photographers everywhere.
We’ve seen an incredible amount of work created: almost 1,000 photos to date in the Flickr group alone! Every submission has been gorgeous, thought-provoking, and encouraging of community and communal creation.
This month’s concept, “The World of the Others,” asks us to view community in different ways. “The World of the Others” is an encouragement to be the opposite of an outsider – for us all to live in community with one another. This is our message, and the images we’ve seen created for March have revealed a deep desire around the world to belong, and to encourage others to belong, too.
As you view the images from March’s Concept Collaboration, think of how community applies to you and your life, how we can all encourage each other to work together for the greater good, and how we can include those who feel as though they don’t belong.

One of our favorite facets of Concept Collaboration is choosing the most promising photographer of the month to win an amazing camera bag from our incredible sponsors at Vanguard, a company supporting photographers around the world with top-of-the-line, innovative camera gear and camera bags. We had 65 otherworld,y awesome collaborations for “The World of the Others” uploaded to our site, and many many more to our Flickr group. After checking them all out, we are happy to choose Isabela Mariana as our most Creative Collaborator of the month!
Isabela’s image, “Losing Touch,” is the perfect combination of story and emotion. As a tight portrait, it captures the detail in the emotion of the subject – surprise, at first, and then slowly, the realization that this is not like something ever seen before. The implications of being “different,” and the way that this difference is utilized, whether for good or bad, is left to the character of the story to decide – and we imagine, even though the hand is dark and metallic, that it will be used for nothing but light and beauty. Great job, Isabela!

We love meeting up. It’s a huge part of the Concept Collaboration movement, and challenges the idea that art must be done alone and apart from others. By challenging the norm of real-life artistic creation, we believe a ripple-effect of friendships, business partnerships, and new and fantastic ideas will grow forth. And after just three meet ups, we are realizing this ideal.
