La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Buñol in the Valencia region of Spain. Tens of metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets in exactly one hour.
Wikipedia: Tomatina

Flickr member flydime was on location and took a bunch of awesome photos documenting the event. Take a look at the rest of his work and enjoy some squishy red tomato fun in his La Tomatina set.

SINGAPORE 2010 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES DIVING

syncronised swimming - performance

The first ever Youth Olympics Games wraps up on August 26th in Singapore and, from the looks of things, it was a hotbed of athletic ability. To celebrate the inaugural game, the International Olympics Committee sponsored a Youth Olympics Photographer Challenge for the budding photographer who could share what they thought captured the spirit of the Olympics. The winner was Billy Rowlinson from the UK and his winning entry is below. Billy’s in Singapore right now covering the end of the games. Congratulations Billy!

Snowbirds 9X

Anyone out in the British Columbia area make it to the Abbotsford Air Show recently? They had a rare bird- one of two airworthy Avro Lancasters participate, as well as the Snow Birds, the Thunderbirds and lots of other cool aircraft. If you went, there’s a group you can add them to. You can also search for more.

Rolling shutter is a method of image acquisition in which each frame is recorded not from a snapshot of a single point in time, but rather by scanning across the frame either vertically or horizontally. In other words, not all parts of the image are recorded at exactly the same time.
Wikipedia: Rolling Shutter

If you have an iPhone, or any other device with a rolling shutter, try out this technique yourself. More inspiration can be found in our search.
