Barry Talis is relatively new to the street photography scene but his Flickr following is growing quickly and it’s easy to see why. His work is candid, dramatic and brings light to the religious and political tensions of Tel Aviv, Israel.

“I bought my camera three years ago to shoot video but realized that I actually enjoy taking candid photos on the street.”

In order to control the scene Barry uses a hand flash and some of the results are stunning, and he prefers to be surprised by which photos turn out well. He spends hours walking around looking for interesting and dramatic street moments worth shooting. Barry also loves to experiment with flash angles; to be surprised by how the shots come out.

“Shooting strangers with a flash comes with a price. It limits me to only one natural shot before people notice me and the candid moment is over.”
