Photo critiques are a long-standing tool used by photographers to help them advance in their craft and see their work through other perspectives. On Flickr, we have a robust and passionate community of photographers, and so it is no surprise that some of our most popular Flickr groups focus on photo critiquing. These groups provide photographers with opportunities to learn new technical skills, hear feedback about what how others interpret their work, and ultimately help them grow as photographers.
We are highlighting a couple of our most popular photo critiquing Flickr groups, so you don’t miss out on this important and beneficial part of the Flickr community. We hope you will check them out and enjoy the opportunities the groups offer by connecting you with other photographers here on Flickr.
Critique
This Flickr group has been around since 2004 and with over 18,000 discussions it is clear why Flickr members are joining this active and responsive community. Their goal is to help give feedback to all levels of photographers. Joining this group will connect you with a network of over 15,000 Flickr members who come together not only to showcase their work, but to learn and develop their photography skills with the advice of an experienced and talented community.
Photography Critique
Another great Flickr group offering photo feedback is the Photography Critique group. Also started in 2004, the group has over 26,000 members and counting. The discussions are full of valuable information and provide photographers with opportunities to reflect on their work while considering other photographers’ approaches and suggestions.
TWiP
For more photo critiquing content, you can also check out TWiP, This Week in Photo. TWiP is a popular, long-running podcast hosted by founder, Frederick Van Johnson. There, you will find a wide array of round table discussions covering a variety of topics within the realm of the photography industry, but one of the TWiP community’s favorite discussions are the themed photo critiques. Take a deep dive into the TWiP archives to check out some past photo critiques here. If you’d like to get to know some of the TWiP community right here on Flickr, check out their official TWiP Flickr Group.
Of course, putting yourself and your work out there can be intimidating, so if you aren’t quite up for sharing your photos for feedback just yet, there is still value in checking out the groups and following along with the discussions. Being an active listener in one of these groups is a great way to start learning about the value of receiving feedback in the way of a photo critique. Happy learning!
