Ready, Set, Draw-Inktober 2023 starts soon!

Flickr is a place to find inspiration and that often comes in the form of beautiful photos, but if you start searching the site, you will find that many other types of artists can be found here as well. Because our artist community is so large and diverse, it may be no surprise that we jump at a chance to celebrate creating art and every fall we do that by participating in Inktober, a drawing and sketching challenge that lasts the whole month of October.

Inktober was started in 2009 by Jake Parker as a way to create a routine of intentionally making time to practice and develop his drawing skills. It is now celebrated worldwide every October, and artists across the globe participate in the challenge by drawing a new sketch each day of October and sharing it online for others to enjoy.

There is no requirement on your level of expertise as an illustrator or artist, just the request that you create art and share it every day or as many days as you can throughout the month. Flickr members have been enjoying this challenge for many years, and we’d like to highlight this year’s Inktober 2023 Flickr group, so you can join in on the fun.

While other mediums are accepted, the primary medium that you are encouraged to use as a base for your work is ink. If you’d like to share your creations with other Flickr members, you can share one item of your own creation a day, to this group. The accepted safety levels in the group are ‘safe and moderate’ so keep that in mind when deciding on your pick of the day.

Prompts for this year’s Inktober event can be found in the Inktober Flickr group, so you can use that list to kick off your brainstorming. If you aren’t an artist, check out this group anyway and enjoy the work of the very talented Flickr members around you, it may just inspire you to pick up a pen or pencil yourself!

For some more visibility for your works of art, consider adding Inktober23 as a tag to those pieces and help other artists and Flickr members more easily find your work! If you’d like some tips on how to quickly tag your drawings, check out this help page for a quick walk through of the process.

We can’t wait to see what you have been sketching up! See you over in Inktober 2023 and Happy Fall!
