It’s time for a check-in to share what we’ve been up to at Flickr over the last month. We have some fun product updates that we’re excited to share! And while we are catching up, we also want to show you a quick trailer from our Mobilizing for Monuments Road Trip film, coming out tomorrow!
Updates to your mobile app Lightbox experience
We’ve made some updates to the Lightbox on the mobile app and we are excited to share those improvements with you! We know that access to photo information is so important and our mobile app Lightbox update will improve that experience for you by adding a seamless swipe up action to allow speedy access to photo info. To close the info screen, you can flick the photo away as previously available or swipe back down to close that area out.
We’ve added some new icons as well! You’ll now see some new additions for the favorite, comment, and share icons. We’ve also added a three-dot menu to both the Lightbox and the info screen to make accessing your options easier. This update will be released as a progressive roll out, so check for app updates as they are available and find the photo information you’re looking for with ease!
A new viewing option for your Photostream!
We’ve recently added a new layout option for viewing your Photostream on the web. With this new layout, you’ll see more information about your photos at a glance, such as the number of faves and comments. From this layout you can also reply to comments on your photos without having to leave the Photostream page. The two layout options can be found in the upper righthand corner of your Photostream page. 
The first layout option is the one you may be familiar with already. No added icons or actions are available below the photos when this layout is selected.
The new layout can be found within the second icon as noted below. That option will place the title, fave, comment and ‘add to album/group’ option below each image. This is a particularly significant improvement for touchscreen devices, where members cannot hover to see this information on the regular layout.
Mobilizing for Monuments Film Trailer
Next up, embark on an awe-inspiring journey across the American West in this sneak peek of the Mobilizing for Monuments Road Trip Film, with the full film launching tomorrow!
The film follows The Conservation Alliance, Flickr, Rivian, and Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project on a week-long road trip (November 7-13, 2023) from Colorado to California to share the stories of tribal leaders, conservation non-profits, politicians, and business leaders advocating for the protection of public lands in their backyards. The stories underscore the importance of national monuments for the environment and economy and call for the protection of three million acres of land.
The road trip included five recently designated or proposed national monuments:
- Proposed Dolores River Canyon Country National Monument and National Conservation Area in Colorado
- Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni-Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument in Arizona
- Avi Kwa Ame National Monument in Nevada
- Proposed Chuckwalla National Monument in California
- Proposed expansion of San Gabriel Mountains National Monument in California

Old news with the Library of Congress
Check out the new additions to the Library of Congress’ gallery, News in the 1910s. This gallery contains over 27,000 images, all photographed over 100 years ago by Bain News Service in about 1910-1912. This collection, preserved by the Library of Congress, features a variety of events, from political to sports and all of the news in between, with a focus on New York City life.
The Library of Congress encourages Flickr members to scroll through the gallery, comment on images and add any helpful identifying information you may note about the photos in this gallery.
