The northern state of Uttarakhand, India, has been devastated by flash floods and landslides from record-breaking rainfall in June. According to regional officials, thousands of victims are still missing after 100,000 lives have been saved from rescue missions so far in this disaster that’s dubbed the “Himalayan tsunami.” Uttarakhand is a sacred destination for Hindu pilgrims who visit its temples and towns in the picturesque Kedarnath Valley.
