Another Round of Mystery Photos from the Library of Congress

The Library of Congress has added some new additions to their Mystery Photos Flickr Album and they are looking for some help in finding clues to the stories behind these photos. The mystery photos album consists of many uncaptioned images from the Harris & Ewing studio. The Harris & Ewing studio was located in Washington, D.C and owned and operated by George Washington Harris and Martha Ewing. This particular collection consists of over 40,000 glass negatives and according to the Library of Congress, are noted to be from the period between 1905-1945.

Photos that the public have previously helped shed some light on are marked as ‘identified’ in the caption but images marked with ‘NO CAPTION’ can all benefit from your detective skills. You are invited to scroll through the images in this album and leave comments on any of the photos that you may have some helpful information to share.

Based in Washington, DC, the Library of Congress is the national library for the United States and is considered the world’s largest library. Back in 2008, the Library of Congress became the very first member of the Flickr Commons program. They store over 42,000 images from their archives on Flickr. We hope you’ll take a moment to take a look through the mystery album. While you are there, make sure to check out the Library of Congress’ full Flickr catalog to see other moments in history that are being shared there. Happy sleuthing!
