New U.S. National Monument in New Mexico

On May 21, 2014, a nearly 500,000-acre area in the southern part of New Mexico was designated by President Barack Obama as the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. Now protected by the Bureau of Land Management, it features picturesque mountain ranges, the Kilbourne Hole, and historical sites.

Tribute to ‘Alien’ artist H.R. Giger (1940 – 2014)

A staff member of the H.R. Giger museum, told AP that the artist H.R. Giger has died. Born in 1940, he was a pioneer in bringing us a nightmarish vision of the macabre world. His most notable work appears in “Aliens” and “Dune” sci-fi movie classics that catapulted his status into stardom. In his museum and bar at Gruyeres, Switzerland, his oeuvre is in full display.
