The U.S. National Archives presents historic images of the then-newly completed World Trade Center in lower Manhattan, from May 1973.
Wil Blanche’s DOCUMERICA assignment took him to New York City and Westchester County where he took pictures of landfills, water pollution and the rapidly changing Lower Manhattan skyline. Among his photographs are images of the newly completed Twin Towers of the World Trade Center – U.S. National Archives.



These photos are on The Commons. San Bruno, CA | A fiery natural gas explosion ripped through a residential neighborhood in a San Francisco suburb on Thursday, ravaging some 50 homes and killing at least one person, officials said.
As many as 22 people were injured by the blast and flames in San Bruno, a few miles from the San Francisco International Airport, and were taken to local hospitals and burn treatment centers. The local coroner’s office reported one fatality.
