The exact origins of golf are unclear. Whatever prompted someone to spend hours hitting a little ball with some
kind of stick or club into a little hole located a great distance away obviously had lots of time on their hands.
And then again, whoever thought of cooking almost spoiled entrails and calling it “haggis” also had lots of time or
had a great sense of humor.
It’s a frustrating yet extremely satisfying game to play. For most less than amateur folks, it’s probably more the
former than the latter. So this leaves the consolation of just having plain fun while out on a course. Yes, it
can be enhanced by camaraderie and a bit of liquid confidence, but appreciating the overall beauty of your
surroundings can sometimes be breathtaking!
Cheers to the 136th The Open Championship.
