Defying military warnings, 35,000 Buddhist Monks staged another day of protests in what’s become the biggest anti-government demonstration Myanmar’s seen in nearly two decades. Triggered on Aug. 19 after the government hiked fuel prices in one of Asia’s poorest countries, this most recent string of protests reflects a deep-rooted discontent with a repressive military rule that’s dated back to the early 60’s.
