Flickr was one of the earliest online services where members could add meaning to their photos via tags – a list of words to go with each photo that allows the photo to be grouped and searched around the added tag. Our community and Commons institutions have used tags for a huge number of things, from curating ad-hoc collections of photos to using them to rally around events and movements.
Tags pages haven’t gotten a lot of love over the years, so we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve refreshed them! Here’s what’s new; we hope you like it!
Trending Tags
We’ve got a new tags page that will show in real time what tags are trending, a window into what tags our community are using at this moment. Popular subjects, world events and celebrations, themes – the zeitgeist of what you are communicating through your images is right here. The main page shows a slice of what is trending today and this week, as well as the top tags used on Flickr overall.
Tags Pages
Pages for individual tags have also been updated!
You can go to a tags page directly from the tag on the photo page, or via the trending tags pages. We’ll show you a list of recent photos that use that tag, groups that are related to it, and a bigger list of photos that are related to that tag. If you come from the photo page, we’ll also show you your photos that use that tag.
Take a look at the tags and let us know what you think in the Help Forum. We hope you like this update!
