Every year on August 19, the world comes together to celebrate the origins of photography. World Photography Day commemorates the day in 1839 when the French government purchased the patent for the Daguerrotype—an early photographic process—and released the process in full as a gift to the world.
This year, we’re excited to celebrate World Photography Day by hosting our first multi-category photo contest! Each of these categories presents an opportunity to share your work with a worldwide audience, connect with other passionate photographers, and, of course, win fabulous prizes.
Without further ado, the categories for the World Photography Day contest are:
Nature: submit your favorite shot of the natural world around you—landscape, aerial, underwater, it’s all good.
People: show off your best selfie, fashion photo, portrait, wedding shot, street capture, and more.
Animals: from pets around your home to wild animals around the world, give us your best animal shot.
Objects and structures: architecture, still life, food and product photography—your options are endless.
Of course, more categories to enter also means more prizes to win:
Grand Prize Winner (1 total, selected from category winners):
One (1) FUJIFILM XE4 kit from FUJIFILM.
One (1) Everyday Backpack from Peak Design .
Category Winner prizes.
Category Winners (4 total):
One (1) Luminar AI software license from Skylum.
One (1) Strap from Peak Design.
Category Runners Up (2 per category):
One (1) 1-Year Flickr Pro account.
That’s a grand total of 13 prizes, plus countless eyes on your favorite photos, just waiting for you to submit. Here’s how:
Step 1: Join the World Photography Day group on Flickr.
Step 2: Choose the photo you’d like to enter and add the corresponding category tag: WPDNature, WPDPeople, WPDAnimals, or WPDObjects.
Step 3: Select “add photo”, choose your photo, then “add to group” and “ok” and you’re done! Only one photo per category, please.
