Red Sox Nation

RED SOX NATION

Let's go Red Sox    Three Up, Three Down.      You Know You're in Boston When...

Monster Seats Sign

I’ve never been the face-paint donning, foam-hands clad, spectator-sport enthusiast. Prior to living in Boston, I had as much interest in watching a paced game of baseball as I did waiting for a virus-ridden computer to start up. But a few visits to Fenway Park quickly fixed that.

For Bostonians, being a Red Sox fan is a cult vow, turning even the most left-brained, emotionally stable citizens into unflinchingly faithful and superstitious beings who don the “B” on their dusty caps as if it were a red badge of courage. A telling instance is the fact that, as late as the night of game four in this season’s World Series, Boston city officials were afraid to pre-plan any victory parades, so as not to jinx the team that has caused an 86-year-old heartbreak for so many.

I sadly can’t make the city-wide parade that’s being held today, but I look forward to experiencing it vicariously through my fellow fans on Flickr.

GO SOX!

It’s not too late!

Did you happen to shoot any film with a crappy plastic camera on October 20? If so, you might like to pay a visit to the World Toy Camera Day group page, where you’re welcome to add to the growing pool of contributions taken all over the world.

Moominsean, kellybelly, Christopher Evans & sweet distin have already done just that…

Star Wars

Using the Force     Junk Yard Yoda    Ally as Princess Leia

My dearest excellent members of the society of Flickr,

What I’m going to tell you I’ll only say once, so listen carefully: Your domesticated non-human mammals are possibly decoys employed by members of The Dark Side.

Please don’t panic. A tip from a credible resource has unearthed some rather disturbing evidence of espionage.

Very little is known right now about their exact mission, so keep vigilant. Carry your camera everywhere you go at all times. Some of your fellow members have thankfully already done so. What I have to offer is their evidence, along with the comforts of our esteemed culture of trust. Keep safe.

More Ways to Upload

experiment nr. 1

Here at Flickr, we want to make sure your photos arrive safely, efficiently, and with style—from wherever!

That’s why I’m pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with our friends at Microsoft to enable direct to Flickr uploady goodness in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is an easy way to get your photos off of your camera, tag them, make simple corrections, and then upload them to Flickr. It also has a wicked cool auto-panorama feature to stitch together multiple photographs, utilizing weird science direct from the labs of Microsoft Research. Oh yeah, it’s also free. When we saw it, we immediately knew it would be great for Flickr members.

So, do you use Windows XP or Vista, and want to give it a whirl? Check out the beta now! (You’ll need to run Microsoft Update after installing it in order to get the absolute latest version with Flickr included.) Or, if you prefer, you can wait for the full release, coming soon.

Of course, we’ll be continuing to develop our own upload tools, as well.
