ICYMI June Recap: Flickr News and Updates

California Coastal NM

We’ve had a busy summer over at Flickr and we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss any of our recent announcements. From joining 1% for the Planet to another successful Explore Takeover and releasing a new Photo of the Day project, make sure to read on to find out more about what we’ve been up to!

Flickr Joins 1% Percent for the Planet

Last month we announced that we joined 1% for the Planet, a coalition of businesses who donate 1% of all sales, not just profits, to support verified environmental causes and organizations. As members of The Conservation Alliance, and also being Certified Evergreen and Climate Neutral Certified, joining this important collective action in support of our environment and the health of our planet made sense. To learn more about the work done by 1% for the Planet, check out the Flickr blog.

NEW: Flickr's Photo of the Day

Last month we introduced a new initiative that provides an opportunity to feature your images on our official Instagram handle, Flickr’s Photo of the Day. If you would like to put your favorite image into the running for a feature on our Insta account, visit this thread in Flickr Social and share a link to your photo with a little background to the image. We can’t wait to help get your photography the spotlight it deserves!

June Explore Takeover – Movement

Last month, we highlighted the many ways movement can be captured through photography in our June Explore takeover. The takeover resulted in a beautiful and creative collection of photos displaying movement in many different forms. Check out our Explore takeover highlights gallery and then visit the full Explore Takeover here! For this month’s Explore takeover we are featuring Street and Documentary photography. If you have a photo you’d like to submit for a chance to be included, add it to this Flickr Social discussion thread.

Open Spaces Survey

New Study by Flickr Highlights Why Open Spaces Matter for Photographers

We recently partnered with The Conservation Alliance to survey over 1,750 photographers—from weekend hobbyists to small business owners to hear more about how Open Spaces contribute to the world of photography. From that survey we created a study that looks at the economic and creative importance of these Open Spaces, especially for the many professional photographers in the U.S. who rely on these areas for their income and artistic inspiration. Learn more about the report and check out our findings here!

That’s a wrap. Stay tuned to the Flickr blog more product and event announcements!
