Join us in welcoming the Local History and Archives Department of the Hamilton Public Library to The Commons. The department has been collecting and preserving a wide range of materials relating to the historical development of the City of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and the Hamilton-Wentworth region since 1914. A selection of these images is now available for a global audience here on Flickr.

The continuously growing collection includes scrapbooks and clipping files, archives, books, periodicals and pamphlets on a wide range of local history topics from sports events, places of worship and people, to heritage buildings, landmarks, and much more. There are also over 3 million photographs depicting the history of Hamilton and the surrounding areas from as far back as the mid-1800s.

We hope you enjoy the photos, and invite you to explore the historical collection to contribute your knowledge through comments and tags.
