5 Questions for Kit

whateverIn our last edition, Charlie Lumanlan suggested Kit and so, with a quick hop across the Pacific, we find ourselves in Hong Kong.

When the number of someone’s testimonials exceeds our expectation of what a typical member profile looks like, you know you’ve found gold. Here are a few things that Kit’s fans have said:

*Kit* captures moments in everyday life that could go unseen: those little things become incredible through her eyes.helena+

Every photo that she post is a new emotion for my mind. I love how she use her cameras (digital or film) and is able to make good photo in every situation, making something simple in a good looking thing, like a Beethoven sonata.” WasabiNoise

a generous person, a lovely person, a far too kind person, with a talent for photography seldom seen…The Norwegian

1. Kit, we know it’s a tough question, but if you had to pick just one camera to shoot with from now until the end of time, what would that be?

*

Kit: I think this is the toughest among all these 5 questions. :D I use nearly all kind of (film) cameras from Lomo to M6, from Hasselblad to Graflex Crown Graphic and I love them all. I pick a camera depending on the mood of that day so picking one is pretty impossible. However, if I really really have to choose one, it will be my Hasselblad simply because I love the sound of it.

2. Another (possibly) tough question… Tell us your favourite photos on Flickr, and why you like them. First, a favourite from your photostream?

The Man who sold the World

Kit: Actually, I never talk much about my photos because I want them to speak for themselves. So this is pretty rare. :D

Well, photography is a piece of mirror for me. It is a reflection of what I see and what I feel. I had always found it difficult to express myself until I started taking photos in February 2006. So, for me, taking photo is more like keeping a diary than creating an art. (Frankly speaking, I never consider myself artistic.)

I feel that there’s so much connection between me and “The man who sold the World“. He was only a stranger and I didn’t even see his face. Maybe because of that, it was a perfect reflection of my own image at the time I clicked the shutter. What’s more, I always have a frame of picture like that in my mind even before starting photography. Probably because of the dream I always had when I was younger. So it was also like a déjà vu. It is surely not the most popular photo in my photostream but I think it represents me most. :)

And from another Flickr member?

the face of another

Kit: “the face of another” by memetic. We saw this man at the the same time, we shot him at the same time, but only he nailed it.

3. What’s one tip that you would share with someone who’s just picking up a camera?

the newspaper

Kit: I started taking photos with a Lomo LC-A and the motto of Lomography always has a great impact on my photography, no matter what camera I shoot with. So…

“Don’t think, just shoot!” :)

4. When we interview peeps for employment here at Team Flickr, we always ask: “Kittens, babies, sunsets or flowers? Pick one.”

x_x

Kit: Haven’t I told you some people call me Kitty? ;)

5. Which Flickr member should we ask these 5 questions of next?

life is full of possibilities

Kit: There are a lot of amazing works and wonderful people on Flickr. Many of them keep inspiring me everyday. Out of all of them, I think Chris is a photographer and a friend I truely respect. Some people says, “Life is like a movie”. Browsing through Chris’ photos is like peeping into the cinematic moments of some seemingly ordinary life. They provoke my thoughts and touch my deepest emotions. His works are very important to me.

Heather: Kit, thank you. It’s been a pleasure to see one of my favourite cities through your eyes. We’ll be back soon with the next installment of 5 Question when we interview Chris.
