Happy 10th Birthday, Flickr!

Today we’re excited to celebrate Flickr’s 10th birthday with you! It has been an exciting decade and it’s because of the amazing community you created that Flickr has become what it is today.

Among many other things, you have made new friends, met spouses, discovered species, and found new professions in this community and we want to celebrate and thank you for making Flickr awesome!

Together we have defined online photo sharing. Currently, there are nearly 2 million groups sharing 1 million photos every day. We were the first significant online community where you could store, organize, tag, and share digital photos. Before Flickr, there was no widespread way to share your photos with friends, family and the wider public.

Stewart Butterfield, Co-Founder of Flickr, wrote to us to share his thoughts about the last decade:

“It’s exciting for me to celebrate Flickr’s birthday! When we dreamed this photo site 10 years ago, we couldn’t have imagined the impact it would have on digital photo sharing and the way it would connect people worldwide. I am proud of Flickr and excited for what’s ahead.

All year long we’ll mark this milestone with contests and events around the world. To start, we invite you to share your favorite 10 photos of the last 10 years with us in the #Flickr10 group. We’ll keep the group open for the next two weeks and then select our favorite photos from the pool to publicize on FlickrBlog and through our profiles on Facebook and Twitter.

Please join with us to wish Flickr a very Happy 10th Birthday!
