3 December, 2004

We’ve just released a big bunch of new functionality, revolving around being able to show when you took a photo, and not just when you posted it to Flickr.

So, when you’re looking at an individual photo page (example), you will see that the date this photo was taken is the 15th of October, 2000. This date shows up next to Caterina’s buddy icon in the top right. If you look under the photo description, you can see that it was posted to Flickr on the 14th June, 2004. You can click on either of these dates to enter a new view of Caterina’s photostream. If you own the photo that you’re looking at, you’ll see a “Change the Date” link next to the Date Taken, where you can modify the dates if you wish.

Each person who has uploaded photos to Flickr now has an Archive. The Archive is a new way to surf a photostream, based around the dates that photos were taken, and when they were posted to Flickr (example). Once you’ve entered a part of the archive, you’ll also notice that you can switch views, from list (which just shows thumbnails), to detail (which shows titles, descriptions and dates, and is editable if you own the photos), and finally the calendar (which shows the days of the month that photos were uploaded). (There’s a little toggle hyperlink in the top right.)
