Since our soft launch at the Emerging Tech Conference a few weeks ago, we’ve been working on our servers, watching the usage patterns and discovering many ways to make Flickr better. Nothing like actual users to give you a sense of what needs to get done.

When I’ve described our process to people (“I” in this case being me, Caterina) I’ve talked about an architect who when he was designing the quads at Stanford University didn’t lay down any paved pathways but just planted the quad with grass. After a few months the paths the students took through the grass were obvious, and he just paved where those paths were. This is how we are designing Flickr. We are watching, asking and observing how people most enjoy using Flickr and building Flickr around that.

Expect a lot of new changes in coming weeks, even days!
