Portrait of Autumn

A Ray of Hope

Whether it feels like a distant memory or you’re currently enjoying the season of fall, it’s a favorite season for photography for many Flickr members. We asked photographer and Flickr member Leanne Boulton to assemble photos from across Flickr that depict a portrait of autumn. Here is what she shared with us.

Portrait of Autumn

courtney !!!!!

Autumn, a season of yellows, oranges and reds in the temperate forests of our world. Leaves fall to create a carpet of rich colour and stored energy to rot away and nourish the ground beneath. There is decay in this season and you may smell it in the air yet there is preparation and preservation. A readying to survive the harshness of winter and to generate new life when the thaws arrive for spring.

I love autumn. The richness of warming hues, the chill in the air as the winds turn, the dampness of a dewy morning underfoot and the smell of warming spices as we prepare our reserves of food for winter.

It was an honour to be asked by the Flickr Social community to curate a suitable gallery for the season and, as a people photographer, I could think of nothing more apt than a ‘Portrait of Autumn’. I hope that you can find the richness, warmth and spice of the season in the portraits and street photography images that I have put together for you here.

My warmest wishes for this magnificent time of year.
