Building Together: Flickr’s 2025 Highlights

2025 Recap

2025 was another year of growth, connection and community for Flickr. From product updates to exciting partnerships, we’ve been busy making Flickr an ever-better home for photographers worldwide. As the year comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the things we accomplished together.

Product improvements and updates.

This year, we focused on making it easier to find your community on Flickr.

We’ll start off our 2025 recap with one of the most exciting product updates of the year: bringing Creative Commons 4.0 to Flickr! Flickr members love Creative Commons, and upgrading to 4.0 was a hot request from the community that we were happy to deliver! The CC 4.0 suite brings licensing options that are more comprehensive for international use, meaning the scope of licensing is more appropriate for a variety of jurisdictions, a must for our global community. The new licensing suite now offers the legal code in 32 languages, increasing accessibility and usability for our users.

Creative Commons 4.0 has arrived on Flickr!

Another benefit of the CC 4.0 update is that it simplifies attribution requirements while also providing easily shareable links that explain the license agreement and attribution information all in one place. Creative Commons is such an important part of the Flickr community, we were so excited to bring CC 4.0 on board this year.

We updated our events page, which features upcoming Flickr and photography-focused events, from photowalks to concerts to photo expos. If you’re ready to dive into Flickr groups and start making new friends, check out the new groups page that went live this year. There you can find official Flickr groups like Flickr Social as well as community-led groups spanning a wide variety of themes and genres.

On the networking front, we introduced a brand new Discover page to help guide Flickr members toward communities and groups based on their interests and specialities. We’ve curated groups by topics and subtopics to point you in the right direction as you find your people on Flickr.

This year we also revamped our popular Camera Finder. This data driven page got a fresh redesign and added features, making it even easier to search stats by camera brand or type. Once you’ve searched this awesome new tool and found some favorite models, we’ve created a new save feature so saving your favorite cameras is just a simple click. And while we’re all friends here, a little healthy competition between brands never hurts, so we’ve also added a comparison modal to Camera Finder that will allow you to compare specs between cameras, along with the ability to see photos taken with those camera models, side by side.

Community in focus.

While we improved our product experience this year, community will forever remain at the heart of Flickr. Connection and collaboration were at the forefront of many of our accomplishments in 2025.

Our Black Women Photographers Grant program returned, offering the winner $5,000 to help them further their photography practice, plus a two-year Flickr Pro membership and a one-year SmugMug Pro membership. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Eleonore Menga, who took home the prize for her photo, Living Our Space

We kicked off a brand-new Photographer of the Month program to continue amplifying the work of photographers on Flickr and introduced the Flickr Monthly Photo Challenge group to offer members a regular creative project to inspire them to take out their camera each month.

The Flickr community loves a little healthy competition, so we hosted our annual World Photography Day contest. This year our friends at Oboz Footwear joined in on the fun, providing top-notch hiking shoes to our winners for their adventure-filled photoshoots. To round out a year of photo challenges and contests, our Your Best Shot contest is currently wrapping up and this one brings out some of the very finest photography shared on Flickr. It’s not too late to join the fun!

To encourage learning and growth, we launched the Flickr Fundamental Series, an educational series focused on frequently asked questions about Flickr features and tools. Check out the Flickr Fundamental blogs and videos for an introduction to some of the important features that make Flickr unique and the best place to be a photographer online.

Partnerships.

This year we partnered with some incredible organizations and businesses, helping to promote conservation efforts and fostering relationships with some of photography’s greats.

We sponsored conservation-centered auctions hosted by 1% for the Planet and the Adventure Travel Conservation Fund to help support their sustainability-focused missions. In June, we hosted a pollinator-themed photo contest with La Monarca Bakery and Representative Padilla in support of Pollinator Week.

We also teamed up with Fracture, a glass print making company, to celebrate Mother’s Day with our “Many Faces of Mom” photo contest.

In September, we met with our friends at FujiFilm for their Create with Us event. It was an amazing opportunity for image-makers to create, learn, and network with industry professionals, and had the pleasure of hosting three community photowalks across the city.

What’s coming in 2026?

We’re gearing up for one of the biggest years in Flickr’s history. From bold new features to fresh ways to bring photographers together, 2026 is already shaping up to be something special.

Something really big is coming soon to the Flickr App. Trust us—you’ll want to be here for this. Download the app if you haven’t already and stay tuned.

And that’s not all. We’ve also been quietly building something new for photographers. Something that will change how you connect, create, and experience photography. We can’t say much yet, but it’s right around the corner.

We can’t wait to show you what’s next!
